Uncle Dreg adds a technicolor gleam coat to the world of photography

We’re back after ringing in 2010! In a year with so many unknowns and thus so many possibilities, it makes sense that our first hearted artist of the the New Year would be unbound by convention, unrestricted by fear and unwilling to ignore the compulsion to experiment.

Craig “Uncle Dreg” Booth might claim to not have a clue what he’s doing, and maybe he doesn’t, but the result is extremely cool.

Uncle Dreg calls it “art photography” because the creative juices don’t stop flowing just because the shutter snaps. His work becomes charged around the edges and electrocuted with color.

A simple stroll down Court Avenue in downtown Canton becomes a glowing etch-a-sketch portrait, like a neon x-ray that shows off the hidden energy lurking under the surface of our everyday surroundings. Uncle Dreg reveals the heat and passion that surrounds a young woman like an aura.  He shows us the apprehension that soaks a businessman embarking on a trip on a lonely train platform.

Some pieces show distinctly sinister undertones. Others are just plain unorthodox. But all of them are cool.

these online images dont do the real work justice. even though this is “digital” art/photography, you have to see the prints in person to really appreciate the depth and color. i highly recommend a visit to 2nd april and the dreg spot in canton for a chat and some real inspiration from an artist that is truly one of a kind.

Very cool Creg….it’s about time that someone expressed in writing how incredibly talented you are. I especially liked and agree with the desription of “sinister” and “unorthodox” and ” electrocuted with color”… Keep up the good work. We’re lucky to have you in our artist community.

Wowee! I am not saying this because he is my brother, but, ……….he photographs like a painter. If I had the ability to paint as he creates, I would be a happy artist. Well done, Craig. You deserve this and more! Keep the faith and know that many appreciate and love the work you do!

Thank you Heart Stark Art for so eloquently saying what I was thinking (on many occasions!) and for the POSITIVE and WONDERFUL contribution you have made to this Arts District and the artists who reside here.

    Happy New Year! Brennis Booth

  13. Pat Robeck says:

I like it. Some people use a camera just for snapshots, but, for it to really be art, the artist puts their stamp on it, bringing to life their vision, or message. Without conveying some idea to the viewer, it is just a pretty picture. Great job!
