ABOUT THE ARTIST
Finding inspiration at dusk, Stark County artist Steven Ehret paints canvases filled with phantasmal creatures and landscapes. His obscure scenes and psyches bob between terror and hilarity, influenced by abstract realms of experiences. His uninhibited characters roam old vacant buildings and decaying structures reminiscent of his hometown, exposing pleasures and misfortunes in the twilight.
Dual in nature, Ehret’s conspicuous creations expose their truths and deceptions vividly in a dreamlike ambience. He contrasts harmony and separateness within his work, using acrylic, spray paint and ink. By adding oil paints and organic materials to his repertory, he infuses depth to his multidimensional works. Starting to paint only several years ago, Ehret has quickly been building his credentials within the art community by exhibiting his work in Cleveland, San Francisco and the Massillon Art Museum.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve been drawing since a little kid. I started to paint in high school and I got really into painting once I got out of school. My work is a bit crazy at times, but there are also moments of complete calm and stillness. I enjoy working with different creatures and monsters that I have been working on for many years. Most of my work is derived from my daily life. Things I see, people I talk to and places I have been. I pull inspiration from almost everything that enters my vision.
