Canton ceramic artist Diann Adams shows off diverse, traditional textures in modern molds.

Diann’s work teeters along a pastoral path. Her golden forms sing of prosperous bounty. Her shapes in shades of blue reminisce the vault of heaven. Her modern marbled pots salute ancient stone relics. And her Raku-inspired creations warm the spirit like a hearth fire.

And in true spirit of the artist community, Diann is the protege of another hearted artist, one Laura Kolinski-Schultz. Diann has done well by her teacher.

She’s a member of the CMA’s Ceramic Artists Guild, and her work is available in the gift shop of the Canton Museum of Art. You may also contact Diann for commissions.

While they certainly embody a certain Asian essence, the gourd form they often take feels distinctly American. It’s a nice cultural marriage, and when combined with the natural symbols, colors and contours in her pieces, it’s a wonder they don’t spring to life on the table.

We’re lucky to have a wonderful Potters’ Guild in Canton, aren’t we? They did an incredible job producing hundreds of exquisite chawan tea bowls for the recent Tea Ceremonies held in conjunction with Kimono As Art at the CMA. I just bet Laura had something to do with those.

Like so many artists, Laura does commission work. She is even able to emblazon corporate logos into her pieces, a further demonstration of her ability to unite form with function.

Laura practices what she preaches, too. She offers pottery classes at a variety of levels, teaches the art of T’ai Chi for adults, and she presents the Chinese Tea Ceremony at The Yoga Place.
